Maths

Maths experiences help to lay the foundation for each child’s understanding of the world. Children are given opportunities to develop their understanding and knowledge of all aspects of number, geometry, measurement and statistics to encourage them to build on their prior knowledge and understanding and begin to make connections across the other areas of learning and development. Children have opportunities to practice and apply new skills in everyday situations. Skills often reflect children’s interests and are developmentally appropriate to help them build on mathematical vocabulary. They develop skills practically and in functional ways wherever possible. Maths is covered daily, both within the classroom and outdoors. Child initiated ideas are actively encouraged and delivered by offering real life problems. Mathematical skills are revisited to ensure concepts are reinforced and generalised in different contexts.
