Professional Support
School Nurse |
We have a school nurse on site who visits each class regularly. She provides training and advice to staff to ensure children's medical needs are met. Our school nurse is available to visit the children if they are feeling unwell and also provide telephone advice to the class team. Her role also includes safeguarding and health promotion. |
Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) |
We have two Speech and Language Therapists at Rodney House School. They both work alongside the class team to support the development of children's communication skills. Parent workshops and training for staff are delivered across the school year.

Occupational Therapy (OT) |
Our occupational therapist works with children who display sensory difficulties which can impact upon their day to day activities and behaviour. They support the class team to find and plan for children's optimum level of arousal. This can assist them to cope better with sensory stressors, enhance engagement, attention and communication and increasing potential for learning. |
Music Therapy |
We offer music therapy at Rodney House. Music therapy develops children's communication, listening and concentration skills. It also helps to develop physical, sensory and cognitive skills as they interact with instruments and sounds. Ultimately, the purpose of music therapy is to make contact and connections with individuals who may find communication difficult. |
Play Therapist |
We have a play therapist at Rodney House. Play Therapy is a way of helping children express their feelings and deal with their emotional problems, using play as the main communication tool. We can relieve the needs of children suffering emotional and behavioural difficulties by promoting the art and science of Play Therapy. |
Sports coach |
A sports coach works at Rodney House one day a week. Each class gets the opportunity to work with the sports coach on this day. The coach supports staff with their professional development by modelling P.E. sessions. Children's physical development and skills are worked on during these sessions. |
